Brian Castleberry is focused on helping Maryland businesses export into the Middle East and Africa. He is also focused on attracting foreign companies and investment to the great State of Maryland.
Responsibilities
Brian Castleberry is responsible for initiating and managing exporting activities for the State of Maryland for a portfolio of more than 100 cyber tech, health technology, defense and biotechnology companies. Manage all FDI from Canada, Africa and the Middle East. Brian is additionally responsible for the following:
- Manage 3 foreign offices in Durban, Dubai and Delhi. Direct all FDI strategy by gathering continuous intelligence on each country’s performance, competition, customer attitudes and opportunities for FDI wins in Maryland.
- Led annually (since 2011) in the planning and execution of Maryland’s booth at MEDICA (Dusseldorf), which is the largest life science/health technology show in the world. Total number of Maryland (50 firms) company exports directly related to MEDICA is $25.4 million, and ongoing, at a total 7 year investment of $420,000.
- Led group of 28 Maryland Life Science firms to Arab Health 2014 - 2018 (Dubai). Assisted firms with all pre and post show business development effort. Company exports related to Arab Health are $15.4 million at a 5 year investment of $200,000.
- Established the Maryland Export Partnership, which creates seminar programs to raise corporate awareness of export products and services offered by federal, state and local economic development organizations. The partnership has 140 Maryland firms and is a joint partnership with US Export Assistance Center.
- Represent the Department at public events (e.g. speeches, networking events) and maintain strong working relationships with county, local economic development organizations within Maryland, with Embassies in Washington, DC and with US Department of Commerce.
